Almost every model railroad has areas that lie outside the track boundaries. Such areas need to be covered with something to hide the baseplate underneath. There are many products available under the term “ground cover” to help you create a realistic environment for your railroad. Ground cover can include anything from natural vegetation to water features to man-made surfaces such as roads, pavement, cobblestones, concrete, quarries, bowling alleys, cornfields, farms, canals, just to name a few.
There are two main types of products that you can use to recreate your chosen scene: Scatter materials that are sprinkled on the selected area and slab material that is cut to size and attached to the selected area.
These granite chips can be used in a quarry, on roads and paths, in wagons to represent loads and also as track ballast.
